California Conservatorship

California ConservatorshipWe represent conservators in California conservatorship proceedings, from initial appointment to final accounting. This is for clients who have assumed the responsibility of taking care of a loved one who is unable to physically or financially take care of him or herself.

California conservatorships are usually established in the event of a coma, serious injury or illness that results in a person's inability to make decisions regarding his or her own financial affairs. If a person has already made provisions for him or herself in case of an event like this, such as having a signed durable power of attorney document, a California conservatorship is usually not necessary.

The advantages to conservatorships are that the court strictly supervises them to ensure that the incapacitated adult's affairs are handled responsibly. The downside is that they can be expensive, time-consuming and trying for the conservator.
